Heavy Heart

It is with a heavy heart that we write this post. As many of you know Colton has had a rough week and had many ongoing seizures. We knew in our hearts what path we were headed down. We met today with the neurologist and we were told that the damage to his brain was profound and that there was really no hope of him having any kind of quality life as you or I know it. Colton was moved to a private room this afternoon where we can be alone with him. We have opted to keep him with us for a few more days and then we will have the ventilator removed where he will go into a peaceful sleep. Colton will finally be at peace which is all we have ever wanted for him. We will treasure the four months we have had with him and he has taught us so much about ourselves. He is such a fighter and a little love. He made it to 5 and half pounds. Colton will forever be a part of all of us because each of you reading this gave a little part of yourself to him. If Donny and I don't get to each of you, know that your support and love were felt and known. We appreciate every kind word and gesture more than you all know. We will write a few more times on the blog to share some more thoughts as well as when the service for him will be. My beautiful boy loves you all, as do we.

I just keep re-reading your post from Wednesday, "We love him so much and this just seems like torture for him." There are many ways that God heals, but we are sad and disappointed not to have been able to meet this brave baby. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers ... and while there is great sadness, we know that his short life will not have been lived in vain. We will wait for the rest of his story to unfold ...
With much love, Paul, Lori, David and Melissa Lorenz

Colton,

You will be dearly missed. I hope you know how much everyone loves you and how much we will think of you for the rest of our lives. You have touched us all and showed us what a little fighter you are. Know how wonderful your mommy and daddy are and how much they love you. Only greater things wait for you. You will be missed - with love and affection, Jeff, Melissa, Sydney and Skyler.

I can imagine the pain you are going through and I write this with tears in my eyes. I really felt little Colton was going to make it. My thoughts and prayers are with you. With what we are going through with Nicholas, I have learned that things happen for a reason, we can't change them, but we do learn from them. My favorite quote through all of this has been "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain." Move forth and use what Colton taught you to make the world a better place. Hugs, Donna

Colton,

Even though your time was short, you warmed many hearts and showed us all what a true fighter you were. You inspired many to come together, open their hearts, be strong and truly appreciate all things big and small ;-) In life we get caught up and forget to stop/pause to see the world around us. I just wanted to say "Thank You" for opening my eyes. What an amazing gift from such a cute little guy!! I've gotten to know your wonderful, caring parents even better over these months. They are so strong and blessed to have so many friends and family around them (but you already knew that). I know you will be with them and everyone forever. May God look after you for now.

Love Always,
Sarah, Jim, Ashley and Jacob Koclanis
